I am sure you have heard the saying “you are what you eat”. Well with respect to your skin this is certainly true, as the food you eat has a direct impact on your complexion.

We all want glowing, healthy skin & we have heard about the many superfoods available that support our health, but what are the top foods that we should avoid to save our skin?

1. Caffeine

Caffeinated drinks dehydrate the skin causing a breakdown in the skin’s elasticity and collagen. This can cause sagging, wrinkles & premature aging. I must come clean on that I love my morning coffee and the thought of cutting this out, makes my day seem a little less manageable.! So if you are anything like me and you cant go without, its critical to drink the recommended eight glasses of water daily to keep your body and skin hydrated.

2. Refined & Processed Foods

Highly processed foods and refined carbohydrates deplete your healthy gut bacteria and cause blood-sugar levels to spike. This in turn can stimulate excessive oil production, clogging pores and aging the skin. The foods to avoid include white bread, pizza crust, potato chips & muffins.

3. Sugar

Avoiding sugar is key to maintaining optimum skin health. Processed sugar ages your skin, it triggers a process called glycation which is a major factor in premature aging. Also, acne & inflammation love sugar, sugar cause spikes in your body’s insulin levels that further exacerbate inflammation.
