Winter has just arrived, and your lips are lips are already feeling dry & stingy? Maybe even starting to crack? ☹

So why is this & what we can do about it?

I’m sure you’ve noticed that the skin on your lips is thin and delicate. Lips are more prone to dryness and irritation as they do not have oil glands and so cant produce moisture.

As the temperature in winter cools, humidity levels are falling. The dry cool air draws moisture from the skin including on your lips. This is why you can often experience dry, irritated, chapped lips during colder months.

So here are 5 ways to avoid dry irritated cracked lip naturally this winter-

1. Protect

Its best to avoid cold temperatures but realistically you need to get out and, about right? So when you do need to venture out into cold extreme temps, cover up with a scarf & and apply a good quality natural lip balm for protection.

2. Don’t lick your lips

We are all guilty of this one!

When your lips are dry, its instinctive to lick them as it feels like you are adding moisture but it actually dries them out even more!. As the saliva evaporates, it pulls moisture from the surface of the lips causing even more dryness.

3. Go natural

I’d recommend this for all of your skincare products.!

Avoid toxic, harsh ingredients in your lip balm/gloss. Sometimes fragrances can cause allergic reactions so best to avoid balms with synthetic scents.

Go for products that are natural and contain quality ingredients such as coconut oils.

Have you tried our rawbeauty natural, vegan strawberry lip balm has been crafted using the purest blend of natural delicious strawberry flavours, rich soothing fruit, coconut oils & cocoa shea butter which nourish your lips leaving them soothed and moisturised.

Coconut oil has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, which can help prevent infection while moisturizing and soothing the skin on the lips.

Lip balms may actually contain ingredients that dry the lips out such as mint which although has a cooling sensation on the lips, is very drying and can leave the lips more chapped than before.

4. Exfoliate the lips

Chapped lips are covered in a layer of dry skin that can prevent healing ingredients in lip balms from reaching the right area.

Gently exfoliate away dry skin with a sugar scrub like our Waratah & Wattle Seed sugar scrub which is great for lips & all over your body.

When shopping for a lip scrub, look for products that contain beautiful oils that will soothe and moisten the lips.

5. Stay hydrated

Dehydration is a major contributor to chapped lips.

When your body is dehydrated, it pulls water from certain areas to ensure that the cells stay hydrated. This can cause dryness in the skin, including the lips. In cooler months you may feel less motivated to f=drink your 6-8 glasses of water a day but your body will thank you for it!

Our philosophy is to use only the purest, most natural ingredients so that our skincare range is formulated free of nasties. You won’t find parabens, sulphates, artificial colours or fragrances in any of our products. This makes it safe & effective for use by whole family, including the littlies.
