Did you know that some of the most sought-after skincare ingredients are found right at our doorstep?
Growing in remote and untouched territories in Australia, small berries, nuts, roots, leaves and seeds of our indigenous fauna are “supercharged” with antioxidants, vitamins & nutrients essential for the skin nourishment and regeneration of cells.
These Australian native plants have evolved to withstand constant exposure to the harsh Australian sun. As a result they have an efficient system to protect themselves from the oxidative stress caused by sun-induced free radicals resulting in the extraordinary potency found in the concentrated extractions. This means they have potent skin benefits.
Extensive research by Southern Cross University found that Australian native extracts contain incredible quantities of Vitamin C, E and other antioxidants. When applied to the skin in skincare products these nutrients:
- Improve skin hydration and skin texture
- Provide sun protection
- Lighten and brighten the skin
- Have an anti-inflammatory effect
- Provide superior skin conditioning
- Enhance collagen production and skin cell turnover
- Enhance skin, wound and scar healing
What’s not to love!
In our latest blog we look at 4 of our favourites and why we use them.
1. Kakadu Plum
Kakadu Plum has the world’s highest level of Vitamin C!
It is a potent antioxidant which can protect skin cells from UV-related damage and reduce skin damage caused by free radicals. It can also help reduce inflammation and dramatically boost the production of skin collagen, helping reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture. It encourages elasticity and suppleness in skin.
2. Lilly Pilly
Lilly Pilly is revered for its brilliant anti-ageing and skin rejuvenating properties. It contains a high content of Vitamin C & fruit acids making it an excellent promoter of the production of collagen & elastin in the skin. This works to visibly firm & brighten its overall appearance of the skin.
We have harnessed these amazing skin benefits in our raw beauty Body Butter. Our Lilly Pilly Body Butter contains certified organic Lilly Pilly and Kakadu Plum extracts.
The Waratah is not only a stunning iconic Australian flower it is also rich in amino acids and provides skin with a protection barrier for long-lasting moisturisation which helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. You can find Waratah extract in our award-winning Waratah & Wattle Seed Sugar Scrub.
4. Wattle Seed
Wattle seed extract is a powerful antioxidant, promoting healthy skin cell turnover and reducing signs of wrinkles. Its high levels of amino acids (proteins) promote youthful looking skin.
It is also slightly astringent in nature giving it cleansing, pore refining and anti-inflammatory properties. Wattle seeds are used in our Waratah & Wattle seed sugar scrub.
